FAQ

Q: Where should I go to birdwatch?

A: Botanic Gardens and Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve are good for starters. Actually, if you haven't looked closely before, you'll be surprised at how many birds there are around urban areas.

Q: Whats the best time of the day to birdwatch?

A: early morning (with an emphasis on 'early'). I find also that it is more likely to rain in the afternoon compared to the morning.

Q: What sort of binoculars do I need?

A: Something around 10x magnification represents a good start. The higher the magnification, the more prone to shake. My wife uses a 8x42 and routinely spots more birds than I can with my 10x42.

Q: What other accessories do you find useful?

A: I got a small foldable stool from a $2 shop for $2. It actually fits into outer pocket of my camera bag. A cooler for storing cool drinks is nice but not essential. You can just freeze your drinks in the freezer. After a few hours of birding, the drinks will have thawed to just the right temperature.

Q: Why did you switch from Nikon to Canon?

A: Mirror Lockup and Image Stabilisation
